Reflection
This standard ensures teachers are continually developing their skill. Because technology is continually updating and improving, it is crucial to never become complacent in your field. There are always new technologies or trends to learn. I have always been taught to “never stop learning”, and I believe that is so important no matter what position, age, or profession. The artifacts below resemble ways I have had the opportunity to grow the most in my research and technology infusion. To view the artifacts, please click on the icons under the heading "Artifacts".
Needs Assessment Paper:This paper required me to go through all of the steps involved in creating a needs assessment. Needs assessments are crucial to an Instructional Designer because incorrectly administered needs assessments can produce loss of time, money, and resources. For this assignment, I not only was required to find the need, but I also had to provide a solution to meet the need. Creating a needs assessment is a practical skill that an Instructional Designer will need to know to achieve reducing institutional, educational, and technological learning gaps. I believe this artifact met Standard V by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion and reflecting on current research in support of student learning.
Model/Theory Paper:Instructional models are guidelines, frameworks, or plans to organize the structure of instructional activities. Without the proper use of instructional models, the instructional design process would not succeed. Learning theories are different approaches to learning. This paper researches three learning theories, and their effect on instructional models. It is vital for an Instructional Designer to be well educated in these concepts to accommodate to multiple learning styles. I believe this artifact meets Standard V by contributing to the effectiveness of the teaching profession.
Assessments in Education: Distance education is a trend that is currently in-demand. It is crucial for an Instructional Designer to research the best way to implement assessments in distance education. This artifact reflects research conducted on multiple assessments that can be used for various learning styles. This artifact meets Standard V by evaluating and reflecting on current research to make effective use of emerging digital tools.
Needs Assessment Survey:This survey is used to understand the study habits of students transitioning from high school to their first year of college. This survey was conducted as a part of the needs assessment paper. This survey helps the Instructional Designer understand the student's perspective during this transition. This artifact meets Standard V by exploring creative applications to improve student learning.
Research Study: This research study was conducted to find the effectiveness of using digital tools such as YouTube in the classroom. Emerging technologies allow teachers to find innovative ways to accommodate to many different learning styles. I believe this artifact fully meets Standard V by exploring creative applications for student learning, demonstrating a vision for technology infusion, and conducting recent research on the effective use of this digital tool.
I have grown so much professionally and educationally during this program. An Instructional Designer should never stop growing, learning, adapting, and implementing new technology trends to best meet the needs of the organization. That is what I plan on doing in the future. I want to always be researching and learning about technologies that will not only help me as I am teaching, but will also help my students in their understanding. I want to give my students the best education possible, and I can only do that through continual professional growth and leadership.
