Reflection
Technology is continually changing and updating. Standard III ensures instructors are proficient and modeling the skills they are teaching to their students. It is so important that instructors are not only aware of the technologies that are currently trending; but that they have a clear understanding of the technology, how to use it, and what it is used for. The artifacts chosen reflect the areas where I believe this standard has been met. To view the artifacts, please click on the icons under the heading "Artifacts".
Google Hangout Tutorial:Google Hangout is an application that can be used for synchronous or asynchronous communication. This tool can be used inside the classroom for participation and projects, or it can be used outside the classroom to provide students and parents with important information. This tutorial was created to show students how to use this digital tool. Creating a tutorial for students supports Standard III by modeling the effective use of the tool itself, the resource used to create the movie, and the use of YouTube for uploading the movie. This artifact also supports Standard III as an innovative way to collaborate and communicate with students and parents.
Schoology:This artifact is a course website that was created using a digital tool I have never used before. Throughout my journey in the MSIT program, I have become very comfortable with Blackboard, Weebly, Google Sites, and Canvas. Schoology was a tool I had never heard about before IT 650. I was able to demonstrate the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies using this tool. Creating this course allowed me to demonstrate and model the effective use of current technologies. This course also incorporated resources, discussions, and weekly announcements that demonstrated the effective use of digital communication.
IT 645 Blogfolio:This blogfolio contains an abundant amount of information on current digital tools. IT 645 was dedicated to teaching the students that there are numerous digital tools that can be beneficial to the instructor as well as the students and parents. I believe this blogfolio meets every aspect of Standard III. The posts were used to demonstrate fluency in technologies, the projects were used to model the effective use of these technologies, and the comments were used to effectively communicate among peers.
ISD Storyboard: This storyboard tutorial was created to assist students in using the free study-tool Quizlet. The initial creation of this tutorial shows students that the instructor is not only aware of this helpful study tool, but they are willing to assist the student in the effective use of the tool. The storyboard was created using the familiar application PowerPoint. This tutorial uses action buttons, animation, transitions, hyperlinks, and so much more. Students not only use the tutorial to learn about a new educational tool, but this tutorial can also spark innovation with a tool they could be already familiar with.
I plan on continually professionally developing myself with current and emerging technologies. I want my students to feel confident that I am proficient in the technologies I am teaching. I also want to continue to teach my students different ways they can use the technologies with which they are already familiar. I always want to model and demonstrate innovation and creativity with technology.
