Reflection
At the beginning of this journey, I was aware of ethical and legal behavior in reference to academic writing. Digital citizenship was something I was not very aware of; but throughout this journey, I have learned so much regarding this important issue. Digital citizenship ensures appropriate measure are taken during the process of getting ideas from a person's work, using another person's work, or creating your own work. The concepts of copyright, plagiarism, and fair use are vital to know in ITD. The artifacts chosen reflect the areas where I believe this standard has been met. Webquest: The Ethical Behavior in Technology webquest was created to give students a creative way of learning about the importance of digital citizenship. This web quest defines and gives multiple resources in the areas of copyright, plagiarism, fair use, and appropriate behavior. At the end of this webquest, students are required to create their own presentation with the information they have learned. This is an innovative way to not only teach students of these important issues, but let the students use creativity in producing a project based from their learning. I believe this artifact meets Standard IV in every aspect.
ID Video Project:This video project is an original video describing the various aspect of Instructional Design. This artifact was chosen as an example for modeling digital citizenship. This video shows how to create original works while ethically using technology resources. Every part of the video (narration, examples, pictures) was either originally created or cited in the references. Others will be able to use this resources as a reference when creating original works.
Cyberstalking Essay:With the increasing implementation of technology in schools, homes, and businesses; it is crucial people are aware of some of the dangers that this implementation can bring. It is especially important students are careful about what they do online. This artifact meets Standard IV in advocating safe use of technology and promoting responsible social interactions.
I plan on continually modeling digital citizenship to my students. This modeling can be achieved through the correct use of videos, graphics, resources, and materials. I also would like to become more developed in my cultural understanding. Because I teach at an undergraduate level, I have a lot of students who come from all around the world. There is a language barrier between us. I want to be more developed in my cultural understanding, so I can provide the best educational experience possible.
